Is landscape architect, senior consultant and former State Advisor on Landscape. He studied architecture and planning at Delft University of Technology. He is one of the three founders of H+N+S Landscape-Architects.
In 2002 Dirk Sijmons received the Rotterdam-Maaskant award for his contribution to landscape theory and his role in the national debate. He received the prestigious Edgar Doncker-award for his contribution to Dutch culture in 2007. In 2008 Sijmons was appointed professor Environmental Design at Delft University of Technology.
In 2014 Dirk Sijmons was the curator of the 6th edition of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam. He published several books related to landscape and design. His most recent book Landscape and Energy (2014) discusses the implications of the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy on our environment, the space we live in. The book addresses the challenges ahead including spatial design, technology development, cultural change, economics and politics.
