Professor of Health economics and policy in the Institute of Health Policy and Management (iBMG) at Erasmus University of Rotterdam. He holds an MSc in economics and a PhD in health economics (cum laude) from Erasmus University. His work focuses on competition and regulation and the role of consumer behavior in health care and health insurance markets, and he published widely in these areas. He is member of the editorial boards of Health, Economics, Policy and Law and BMC Health Services Research and he served at many advisory committees to the Dutch government. He also served as a member of the Advisory board of the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) and as consultant at OECD. Currently he is advisory member of the Social and Economic Council (SER) and academic partner of the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB).
